"It is also possible to hire boats for deep sea and estuary fishing. For the more adventurous, you can catch Black Bass in tributaries along the Madang coast, including the Ramu

Mazda Bravo up for grabs in Billfish Shootout
The PNG Motors Billfish Shootout Competition is on again! And the organisers are just waiting with prize money and a
vehicle up for grabs for that person who catches the biggest Billfish.
The event which is sponsored by PNG Motors Lae branch is scheduled to take place Thursday next week (April 12, 2001) in the middle of the one week Mobil/Shimano National Game Fishing
Titles 2001 in Madang.
According to PNG Motors Lae branch manager Peter Morrison, the event is part of the national game fishing titles but held separately.

He said a fleet of 20 to 30 boats are expected to take part in this competition, with a minimum of four Fisho's
to each boat who pay a registration fee of K1,000 to take part.
"For all those game fishing enthusiasts, PNG Motors Lae Branch is putting up a Mazda Bravo 4x4 Turbo intercooled, single cab ute as the main prize. All you have to do is catch
the largest Billfish weighing 216.2kg to break the current Madang record," Mr Morrison said.
"Shootout Registration will be on Wednesday the 11th of April and interest already generated, indicates another huge success."
Last year's inaugural Shootout Competition in Rabaul was a huge success.
It was rated highly in the internationally acclaimed Bluewater Magazine, which described the competition as "Shootout PNG Style".
The magazine recounts how the day began in spectacular fashion with a line-up of all the boats; and how, after a roar of engines and a cloud of smoke, they raced off to the Rabaul Fishing
Grounds.
The race saw M.V. Endeavour from Lae first away ad quickly among the fish. They eventually won the competion and claimed first prize of arount K18,000.

Radio, rescue coverage on standby
The Mobile/Shimano National Game Fishing Titles 2001 to be held in Madang from April 6th - 15th should be the safest event on
record.
This claim was made by the tournament director Ian Middleton in Madang.
The rules for the event, recently published, require that all competing vessels be equipped with lifejackets, radios, flares and other safety equipment.
But this is not the reason for the claim.
Heli Niugini, a Gold Medal Sponsor of the event, is on standby to provide search and rescue facilities in the event of an accident.
Mr Middleton said this sponsorship would help ensure the safety of competitors during the titles.
"The possibility of an accident offshore and the difficulty in mounting a successful rescue operation is on of the organisers biggest nightmares," Mr Middleton said.
In addition to the search and rescue service, Heli Niugini will also be providing trained radio operators for the daily reporting schedules for all competing boats.
Said Mr Middleton: "The combination of safety equipment required to be carried by the competing boats, the professional radio operation and the rescue coverage provided by Heli
Niugini will combine to make the Mobile/Shimano National Game Fishing Titles 2001 the safest ever."
